What is Gynaecology?

It is a branch or a field of medicine that specializes in, the medical problems of women, especially disorders or the reproductive organs. Agynaecologist is equipped in taking care of female reproductive organs' health and pregnancy management. A physician who has special skills, knowledge and professional capability in the surgical and medical care of the female reproductive system and its associated disorders is known as an obstetrician-gynaecologist. It separates them from other physicians and they can be consultants to other physicians and primary physicians for women. Every obstetrician-gynaecologist builds and develops upon a broad base of skills and knowledge after many years of practice and have unique practice methods and professional focus. With this diversity, there is very high-quality health care for women.

Any ailment concerning the female reproductive organs, fallopian tubes, uterus, ovaries, cervix and vagina is dealt by gynaecology. Any closely related problems of the female reproductive organs such as problem in bowel, urinary system and bladder is treated by the gynaecologist. Yeast and bacterial infections, painful intercourse, irregular and painful menstruation and other problems related to menopause which warrant surgery are also treated by a gynaecologist. All aspects of reproductive health from puberty through menopause and afterwards is the main focus of gynaecology. The common and specific surgical procedures in relation to female reproductive organs are hysterectomy, oophorectomy, tubal ligation, salpingectomy and cone biopsy.
